SAFEDAM SYSTEM SUPPORTED POLISH FIREFIGHTERS - WAVE 2018

The "Wave 2018" were the biggest maneuvers of the Polish State Fire Service this year. It took place on 19-21 September 2018 in the districts of Kozienice and Radom. Several hundred firefighters and dozens of cars from the Mazowieckie, Świętokrzyskie, Lubelskie and Podkarpackie voivodeships took part in this event.

This year the maneuvers concerned tasks related to the prevention of flood risks. The actions of the emergency services were supported by the SAFEDAM system. The system helped in presenting existing flood hazard maps, estimating the water range in the event of levee disruption based on up-to-date altitude data from the three-dimensional terrain model, estimating the amount of sand needed to increase the flood embankment. Moreover, drones  integrated with IT platform presented video transmission in the optical and infrared thermal range during day and night activities to crisis management staff. The system was also a platform for the exchange spatial information from the place of actions in real time by providing the location and distribution of forces and means of firefighters in the flood prevention activities thanks to mobile devices in the field connected to the SAFEDAM IT system. Current VHRS satellite scene from Pleiades was obtained just before the exercise, and during  them drone Zawisak, besides mentioned video, also recorded photos, which after several minutes were processed to oriented mosaic of images for people working with the system in a field. The 2018 wave maneuvers were a general test of system operation under real conditions.
