SAFEDAM system monitored Polish rivers spill
At the end of May, heavy rains in southern Poland increased the risk of flooding.
The Safedam system monitored the threat in order to test the system, the demonstrator of which was completed in December 2018. On May 25, 2019, due to the increase in water level in Polish rivers, also in Safedam tests areas flood hazard was observed. A flood alarm was announced in Sandomierz poviat. Therefore, the operation of the system was verified in the Sandomierz test area. The values of water level gauges were read correctly. The increasing threat assessment on the sections of the levees along the Vistula, especially on the right bank, was visible in the system, which was caused by an increase in the likelihood of a flood wave spilling over the embankment crown.
